What to Expect from Your Wedding Coordinator
One of the benefits of booking your wedding at a hotel venue is the experience and professionalism of your very own Wedding Coordinator. We sat down with our Wedding Coordinator Janice, to talk all things wedding & give you a little insight into what you can expect as well as her advice for wedding planning.
1. What made you choose to become a wedding coordinator?
I love all things romance and love the very idea of helping to make a couples’ dream day a reality. It’s such a special day & being invited to be a part of that is amazing.
2. What are the typical day-to-day tasks as a wedding coordinator?
It’s so important to engage with the couple at all times as building a great rapport and relationship is the key to delivering the kind of day they are hoping for. Communication and responsiveness is very important as well as checking in with them and their to-do list. If I can take any of the stress away or help out with tasks for them to ensure a smooth lead into the day, I certainly will assist. Having over 20 years’ experience with weddings, I have great relationships with a vast variety of suppliers and am happy to share this information and to provide any insider tips I might have with the couples that they may not have thought of. My number one goal is that the planning of a wedding is as smooth & stress-free as possible for the happy couple.
3. What is the best part of your job?
I can honestly say nothing compares to the feeling of being there in the background on the special day to see it all come together. Seeing all your hard work & dedication pay off by seeing the happiness of the married couple makes the job worth every second.
4. What lessons have you learned over the years about helping couples to plan a wedding?
Ensure that I get the couple to enjoy the planning process by showing them how much fun it can be is very important to me. Wedding planning can be a very stressful experience, but it shouldn’t be! I am happy to use my experience and knowledge to provide tips along the way to alleviate this stress. I have learned to become the go-to person that they can come to for any and all questions – if I don’t know the answer, I’ll find it!
5. Have you spotted any upcoming trends for weddings in 2022?
One thing I have noticed is that couples have started looking at ballroom weddings again. The elegance and luxury of graceful chair cover sashes, decorous table centerpieces and stylish floral arrangements are one of the few wedding themes that perfectly suit both intimate weddings and larger grand celebrations. All of the timeless classics are coming back which is amazing to see as that is what we do best here at The Metropole Hotel!
6. Apart from the big day itself, is there anything else you can help plan?
Yes, of course! I can help plan Bridal or Bachelor Parties and ‘before-wedding parties’ – a new trend – something after a bridal party, but before the wedding day. Our fabulous restaurant The MET is a fantastic location with a range of activities to choose from including cocktail-making to Prosecco Afternoon Tea, and of course we are conveniently located in The Victorian Quarter which is one of Cork’s best streets for bars, food and live music. We have brilliant relationships with suppliers across Cork and can arrange really unique activities including Paint & Prosecco, Foraging and Food Tours in Kinsale or private cinema nights and PJ parties in our sister hotel Cork International Hotel. Bachelor parties are also very popular here and we see a lot of men choosing a very chill Beer & Pizza party in the hotel before the big day. Of course, then if you choose, we are only too happy to arrange the all-important PJ party the night before the big day. The day after BBQ Party is ever more popular now as it gives the couple a chance to reminisce with all their guests about the wonderful day, which I can also help to plan. The Metropole Hotel can literally be the start, middle & end of your wedding celebrations!
7. What advice would you give to a couple who are planning their wedding during Covid-19?
Don’t restrict yourself – a good Wedding Coordinator can help you to see the infinite possibility of fantastic options available. Of course finalising the guest list can be slightly more complicated with the changing restrictions, but no matter the numbers, you can create a memorable and wonderful wedding with the help of our experience – the key is having a Wedding Coordinator who is adaptable and a venue that is flexible so that your plans can be altered for a plan a.), plan b.) and plan c.), as guidelines change. Luckily, we have both! If numbers are restricted, our wonderful Duet package offers an intimate wedding day occasion with a bigger celebration a year later with all of the wonderful family and friends that couldn’t attend! It’s so important to ask your Coordinator for help with all aspects of the day- remember there is no such thing as a silly question or too many questions!
8. What do you think makes The Metropole Hotel the perfect wedding venue?
The Metropole Hotel is steeped in over 120 years of majestic romantic history and it is the epitome of old-world style and sophistication. We even have a wedding wall where you can peruse the wedding photos of couples through the years, and how fashion may have changed, but that elegance is timeless. The iconic Ballroom is a dream venue with its natural daylight, chandelier lighting and gorgeous city backdrop. A wedding in The Metropole Hotel Cork is truly where memories are made and you have the trust and support of myself & the entire team for every stage of your celebration
