Ahead of The Metropole Hotel’s 124th birthday , we caught up with Patsy & Bill Hennessy. Still as in love since the day they married, the couple sat down with our Wedding Club coordinator Gavin Farmer to chat about the secret to a great marriage..
How long are you married?
Patsy – We are married 46 years this year.
Where did you both meet?
Bill: We met in CIE on the rails. We were together for 3 years before they married at The Metropole Hotel.
Date of Wedding?
27th June 1975
Why did they choose the Metropole Hotel?
Patsy: The Metropole Hotel was THE place to get married. I loved the idea of getting married in the Metropole Hotel as I was the first in my family to get married and wanted it to be special & memorable day.
Best memory from their wedding day?
Patsy: The weather on the day we got married was glorious. I remember her younger siblings enjoying the sherry trifle dessert in the sun.
Bill: All the guests who attended the wedding enjoyed the music & singing. There was just a wonderful atmosphere on the day which we both will always remember.
What is the secret to a happy marriage?
Patsy: Respect, trust, laughter & love for each other.
If you could give one tip to couples just starting out in their relationship?
Bill: Have respect and patience with one another. Make the most of what you have and enjoy the little things in life.
