Cobh Rebel Walking Tours

Guided Walking Tours in Cork

Heading to Cobh for a day trip? What a fantastic idea! Cobh has so much to see and do, and it’s just a 20 minute train journey from the hotel (hotel is located 5 minutes walk from Cork Kent Station) .

While you are there, make sure to book a tour with Kieran at Cobh Rebel Walking Tours.

The historical walking tour involves a two hour experience, visiting sixteen historical sites in the town of Cobh relating to the war of independence. It begins outside Cobh Heritage Centre which is adjacent to Cobh Railway Station and next to the Deep Water Quay.  Participants will follow the story of the men and women of Cobh, (then Queenstown,) and how they took the war to the far more numerically and superior British military and naval garrisons in the town and harbour, and won.

That story will be told by tour guide and historian, Kieran McCarthy, who will walk his guests in the foot steps of those rebel soldiers and will visit the buildings and streets they walked and fought in.

Kieran will bring to life the stories of ‘A’ Company of the 4th Battalion IRA and will tell the part they played in striking a blow for Ireland’s freedom.

Customers wishing to do the tour from Cork City, can just take a twenty minute train journey and meet the tour as they get off in Cobh. Alternatively, they can take a twenty-five minute bus journey on the ‘Cobh Connect’ bus service which departs from Patrick’s Bridge Cork every hour.   Be sure to ring ahead and book the tour in advance, if you haven’t already booked online, so as not to miss a selected tour time which has two hour intervals.

People interested in learning more about the tour, particularly about the Cobh IRA and its struggle throughout the East Cork region, can do so by purchasing Kieran’s eBook ‘Rebel Cobh & the East Cork Volunteers Since 1913’. The book of nearly 500 pages of text and images, is one of the most detailed of the period and area, ever written, and which is about to be released on the above website in the coming weeks – price €20.
