ALPINE SKATING

CORK ON ICE IS BACK WITH AN ALPINE SKATING TRAIL

Ice skating is returning to Cork at Fota House and Gardens… but with a brand new twist!

This year the Cork on Ice team at Fota are trading their traditional rink for a new alpine trail through the trees at Fota House and Gardens and we are so excited!

Ireland’s first Alpine Skate Trail will open up among the trees at Fota on Friday, November 12th, 2021, offering an exciting rustic day out to visitors of all ages.

The socially distanced activity is a 450m circuit and will be set in a figure of eight as it winds through a ‘real enchanted forest’, particularly at night when it is fully illuminated.

The Manager of Cool Running Events, Bill Cremin, said that this is an opportunity for visitors to Cork to enjoy an even more fun and exciting experience. The team based the concept on the very popular skating trails in countries like Canada and Austria, skaters follow a track rather than going around a rink, “which allows the experience to be a lot more engaging,” Bill added.

The team have noted that despite the real authentic Alpine feel of the trail, the site is still extremely sheltered, so even though it is an outdoor event visitors will not be too exposed to the elements.”

We’d still advise packing a warm coat and some gloves just in case though!
