As I walk through the doors of The Metropole Hotel each morning, I am reminded that I am not simply managing a hotel – I am entrusted with being a custodian of one of Cork’s most treasured landmarks. The Metropole has stood proudly in the heart of the Victorian Quarter for over 128 years, welcoming generations of guests, and carrying with it the memories of countless celebrations, milestones and stories. To lead this historic hotel is both a privilege and a responsibility I hold with the deepest respect.
Honouring the Past, Embracing the Future
Over the past year, we have embarked on a journey of renewal. The ground floor has been lovingly transformed, with a new lobby and reception area that blend our proud heritage with contemporary comfort. The Merchant Restaurant, at the rear of the ground floor, has been reimagined into a space that feels both timeless and vibrant. It is a place where conversations linger over leisurely breakfasts as naturally as the River Lee flowing by its windows.
Our first-floor ballrooms, steeped in history and alive with memories of Cork’s Jazz Festival, weddings and glittering gatherings, have also been refurbished. With every detail, we have sought to honour the splendour of the past while ensuring these rooms continue to inspire new stories for years to come.
A New Identity for a Timeless Hotel
As we unveil our beautiful refurbishments, it feels only fitting to also introduce a refreshed identity for The Metropole Hotel. Our new brand is complete with elegant logos, refined fonts and a colour palette inspired by our interiors which we feel reflects the timeless elegance that has always been at the heart of who we are.
As we launch our new website, we endeavour to provide a modern digital home that mirrors the warm welcome and gracious style our guests experience when they step inside the hotel. It is not just a website but it is a window into our story, our character and the pride we feel in everything we do.

Though much has changed, our essence remains the same. The Metropole Hotel is, and always will be, about people – our guests, our team and our community. We are proud custodians of a place that belongs to Cork as much as it belongs to us, and it is our mission to ensure that its timeless elegance continues to shine for generations to come.
