Absolutely fantastic ! We got married in St. Patrick's Church and we had the reception in the Metropole hotel on MacCurtain Street. We first met Vanya the wedding co-ordinator (who subsequently left her job with only weeks to our wedding in order to further her qualifications and was then replaced by Eibhlish). Vanya sold the venue to us completely by being so friendly and helpful and by listening to us and accommodating our every request. She is an incredibly easy person to deal with for something as complicated as a wedding. The head chef is incredibly friendly and genuine and very easy to get along with - but very highly skilled. Roger and Phil were very helpful. On the day of the Wedding and the day after, Phil treated us like more than customers - like friends or family. We never left the hotel between Friday and Sunday check-out - we were so comfortable and well looked after in the Metropole we didn't want to leave. Rachel at reception and Michael were equally outstanding - both so sincere. We never once wanted for a single thing - one or other member of staff was already providing the solution for our needs before we even realised we needed anything. Vanya met us 4 weeks before the wedding to formally 'hand-over' to Eibhlish. The transition was seamless. It's difficult for a new co-ordinator to take over in the middle of a customer's wedding plans, but Eibhlish had absolutely no difficulty honouring the same level of service as before and in the last week before the wedding this was hugely important to us. Without her ever-present support in the last week we would have been lost. I cannot emphasize enough how highly I rate the service we received from every single member of staff in the Metropole hotel. I hope senior management take note because they need to be made aware that they currently employ the most competitive staff in any of the hotels in Cork city centre and I would dare say further afield too. Everything on the day of the wedding had to follow a strict timeline and we had a lot happening. Not only did everything run smoothly timewise, but we were also treated to the VIP Lounge and wine cellar by the hotel for some of the most beautiful wedding photos any bride could wish to be in. Phil was so friendly when he brought us down there before dinner and calmed us down in a very friendly way. The waiters and waitresses and bar staff were absolutely on the ball, and the food came on time and hot to the right places and the wine and toasts flowed as we had requested. The waiting staff have a very good understanding of the kitchen. Even after the wedding Phil called us simply to say he was sorry he missed us leaving and to ensure us we are welcome in the hotel any time we like and to reassure us we could stay again on our anniversary. The day after the wedding Martin, Mary and Sarah were each one of them immensely polite, courteous and thoughtful in dealing with us and our families in the Met bar downstairs. All of the staff were so personal with us that it felt like we had known them for years. I would recommend the Metropole Hotel in Cork to any bride and groom to be. We even got beautifully engraved crystal glasses provided by the hotel as a wedding present with our names and the date. I could type so much more about the high standard of staff and service in the Metropole, but I need to leave space for other comments !!! 5 stars ??? No - 6 stars !!! P.S. you'll notice one of the attached photos shows us with Ciara's Mam and Dad - it was taken on their own wedding day in the same location in the Metropole on their own Wedding Day in 1969. The hotel also promised to display a framed photo of Ciara's Dad working as a waiter in the hotel in 1963 that we gave to them as a gift in return for their incredible hospitality. We knew from the first meeting with the wedding coordinator that we wanted to celebrate our special day in this venue. The ideas were endless and every aspect of the day was thoroughly discussed openly from the moment of arrival to how it would wind down. Vanya and the other staff were always available to help us with queries from the cake stand measurements to menu ideas. The meal tasting was amazingly prepared, as I was unable to attend the tasting, the groom and my sister (the bridesmaid) arrived to the meals prepared and presented in full. They were surprised at this as they were expecting small dishes to taste. We had no problems regarding the food choices as on the special day. We heard not one complaint or bad word spoken about what was served, maybe only that there was too much food!! That cant be bad at all
The flowers were beautifully presented as discussed and were complimented by all.. the balloons outside the room we loved, the kids and older kids alike all spent time admiring them.
